An important objective in my work as designer is to facilitate a growing
link, a tie between the product and its user(s). This connection has best
chances when the product has a long lifespan and when it is sustainable;
therefore I am constantly searching for better materials and improved
manufacturing processes as to assure the best quality and the longest
lifespan.
Quality means first of all sustainability and artisanal over sizing.
In fact I am more a romantic type, fascinating in the designing
process is first of all creating and manufacturing of a straightforward and
functional product showing the essentials without artificial pimping or
covering. More accurate it is the visual language of the ‘engineering
design’ that attracts me most. Inspiring are the rugged mechanical shapes,
the language of machinery and bridges of the early industrial period.
Manufacturing, creating and experimenting in the artisan workshop is where
my true love in designing starts. I grew up in a workshop, learning and
experimenting different techniques is a satisfying feeling, stimulates
fantasy and calls for an endless enthusiasm. The workshop / atelier is for
me the place to be.
My idea of quality has also much to do with the experience of the design as
a shape, this can also be seen in my previous work. My products and their
processes, the projects, represent a desire for artisan quality moreover the
products strongly add to the experience, the feelings of sphere and comfort
of workshop-romanticism.
As such quality is the guardian angel, the assurance of individual freedom.
